Portrait Drawing Principles for Beginners
In this portrait drawing course for beginners, Connie walks you through a step-by-step approach in fundamental portrait drawing methods. She will guide you on choosing materials, the correct way to hold your pencil, the ‘recognition’ of a visual image, getting the right proportions and perspective, and how to design strong compositions. She will cover how to accurately render crucial, realistic features, such as eyes, ears, and hair. Using dark pencil, white pencil, and toned paper you begin to understand what creates a successful portrait- one that captures a person’s spirit- expression, likeness, personality, and mood. Lots of demonstrations, and individual feedback.

Your mind is a canvas. Mindful meditation and artistic self-expression are both known for providing tangible benefits with regards to mood, motivation, quality of life and more. So why not combine them? This is a safe place for exploring your thoughts and emotions. The session will begin with 10-15 minutes of guided meditation and breath work to get into heart space for creativity, joy, and healing. After that, students will begin to create their art pieces. We will let ourselves be guided by whatever arises naturally through the meditative state of peace and tranquility. Students will also be provided with a reference book with different themes and painting styles if further guidance is welcome. The instructor will be there to help students through the experience by providing artistic direction and advice, while maintaining the optimal meditative state.
